PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Course notes for EXTN 4101 (1+2), B.Sc.–M.Sc. (Integrated) Biotechnology
Welcome

Welcome to Professional and Personal Skill Development, the online course book for EXTN 4101, offered to students of the B.Sc.–M.Sc. (Integrated) Biotechnology programme at the College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Kerala Agricultural University.
A good degree opens the door to an interview, a fellowship or a laboratory; what happens after the door opens depends heavily on how well you can speak, write, organise, argue, manage your time and work with other people. These are the skills this course sets out to build.

About this book
Each chapter corresponds to one lecture of the course and is paired with a practical session in which you put the ideas to work: a group discussion, a popular science article, a presentation, a debate, a quiz, an event, or a time management exercise. The book is deliberately practical. Concepts are kept short and followed by checklists of what to do and what to avoid, and every chapter closes with a Chapter Summary for self-assessment.
How to use this book
- Read the chapter before the corresponding practical class, so that class time can be spent practising rather than listening.
- Complete the Practical assignment box in each chapter and keep the written record in your practical notebook.
- Use the Chapter Summary at the end of each chapter for revision. Answers to the fill-in-the-blank questions are given at the end of every chapter.
